4 Days Merzouga Desert Tour

Overview

This 4-Day Berber Culture Trip from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert and back, will allow you to experience some of the culture of the Berber Nomads and the Moroccan culture at large. Experience wonderful sceneries, historical Kasbahs, visit the Dades Gorge and Toudra Gorge and a camel trek and overnight stay in the Sahara Desert.

What to Expect

Day 1: Marrakech –> N’Tichka Pass –> Ait Ben Haddou –> Dades Valley

Pick-up at Hotel/Riad in Marrakech and start travelling to the Dades Valley via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass and over the High Atlas Mountains. Enjoy the amazing landscapes and fascinating views of the Berber villages. In Ouarzazat, visit the Kasbah Taourirt, one of the most beautiful Kasbahs on the area. Have lunch by the Kasbah and continue journey through the road of “the Thousand Kasbahs”, with numerous photo opportunities of nature and people. Stop at Skoura in the Birds Valley to see the 18th century Kasbah of Ameridhil. Visit Kalaat Mgouna, famous for roses and its annual Festival during the roses harvest in May. Continue through Dades Valley and enjoy seeing majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad Half-board (HB).

Day 2: Todra Gorge –> Merzouga

Have breakfast at your Riad or Hotel. Drive through Dades Valley towards Tinrghir and the Todra valley. See panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. At Todra Gorge, walk under the 300m high red cliff, where many rock-climbers come to enjoy their sport. Enjoy an optional 1-hour hike within the valley. Continue journey to Erfoud and then to the village of Merzouga where your camel awaits. Enjoy the beauty of the Sahara Desert and the sunset over the sand dunes. Have dinner in front of the camp, where you will spend your first night under canvas or the stars, your preference. Overnight at desert camp where you will have your dinner.

Day 3: Merzouga –> Ouarzazat

Enjoy an early morning spectacular view of the sunrise in the Sahara Desert, enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan breakfast at your desert camp.. Camel trek back to the village of Merzouga, enjoying the spectacular view of Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Breakfast at your Riad. Visit the village of the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyles. Leave for Rissani, where most of the women are veiled and the men hooded; this is a very traditional Moroccan town. Continue towards Agdez, via Alnif and Tazzarine before arriving to the Draa Valley at the edge of the Atlas Mountains. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad Half-board (HB).

Day 4: Ouarzazat –> Telouet Kasbah –> Marrakech

Have breakfast at your Riad. Start journey to Marrakech via the largest Kasbah in Morocco, and then over the Atlas Mountains. Visit Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO world heritage site. Journey on through the Ounilla valley to Kasbah Telouet where you will enjoy the panoramic views and scenic moon-like landscape. Kasbah Telouet is an area that was known for the trading caravans led by T-Hami El Glaoui ancestors during the end of the 19th century. Continue through Tizi N’Tichka Pass over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech where the tour ends at your accommodation.
